Frequently asked questions about Dr. Smith’s dental services in Ennis
Will my dental veneers need special care?
With dental veneers, there’s no special care needed. Just take care of your veneers using the same dental care practices you use on your natural teeth, and see your dentist regularly.
What is the difference between porcelain veneers and Lumineers?
Lumineers are a particular brand of dental veneer requiring less preparation. They are easier to apply than conventional porcelain veneers. Porcelain veneers, while requiring more preparation, are more durable and provide better coverage of some imperfections. Dr. Smith can help you decide which solution will best suit your needs.
Do you accept my dental insurance?
We accept all PPO dental insurance, even if we aren’t listed as a dental provider. Deborah will be happy to assist you in verifying your insurance coverage.
Should I do anything to prepare for the Pinhole gum surgery?
You should have a professional tooth cleaning approximately a week prior to the procedure.
How long will my dental implant last?
Your dental implant can last for decades with proper dental care at home and regular dentist visits.
Do you accept walk in appointments?
We don’t accept walk-in appointments to ensure our existing patients are seen at their scheduled time. Occasionally, we do have openings on any given day. To make an appointment, be sure to call ahead and, if you are prompted to leave a message, please do so with as much detail as possible. Please include your name and telephone number (repeat phone number twice) in your message. Deborah will return your call as soon as possible.
How painful is the procedure?
We administer local anesthetic. You may experience minor discomfort during the healing time. However, because the process is noninvasive, post-treatment discomfort should be minimal.
Can I eat normally with my dental implant?
Initially after the dental implant procedure, you will be advised to eat soft foods. After a short period, your mouth and gum line will have adapted to the implant and you’ll be able to eat as you would with natural teeth.
What are my payment options?
We accept cash, Visa, MasterCard, Discover, HSA cards, Flex cards and Care Credit. Payment plans are available for certain services. We do not accept American Express.
How long does the procedure take?
The duration of your treatment will vary depending on the condition of your gums. A treatment on a single tooth can take less than a half hour.
Can Dr. Smith fix my tooth today?
If you are a new patient, or, if it’s been years since your last visit, Dr. Smith will want to do a thorough exam and review your X-rays before recommending a treatment plan. You will soon be on your way to developing a healthy and happy smile.
How long until my gums are healed?
The small hole in your gum should heal quickly, and you should be able to eat normally within one day. You may experience minor tenderness or irritation while brushing for a few weeks after treatment. We will advise you on strategies to avoid irritation and inflammation.
Can I have my teeth cleaned on my first visit even if I have gum disease and have been told I need a deep cleaning?
Absolutely! You can have your teeth cleaned and polished above your gum line your first visit. If you need a deep cleaning below your gum line, we will schedule that appointment for another day.
